Chemung County Soil and Water Conservation District, along with the Environmental Management Council and Water Quality Committee came up with the plan to rid Chemung County of unwanted tires.

So far there have been three events held. The first was in May of 2003 bring in over 8,200 tires. The seconded was in October with approximately 3,300, and the third was this past April with over 3,800 tires collected. In all, Chemung County is now rid of over 15,000 tires.

The District, along with EMC and WCC have held two tire collections yearly since the first in 2003. As you can see from the first year, we smoothed the process out and made life easier for all.
